Who i aM

I wrote Kings of the Coast to bring the history of Montauk and early New York to life in a way that doesn’t feel like a textbook. This era—full of whalemen, warriors, shifting empires, and real historical figures—deserves to be experienced as a living, breathing story. My goal was simple: tell a page-turning adventure grounded in real events and real people, while honoring the Native and colonial history that shaped this coast. If readers learn something along the way, all the better—but first, I want them turning the pages.

More About Me: I teach English and history on the East End of Long Island where I moonlight as a local historian, environmentalist and part-time sea shanty-man.  A devoted student of Native American history, I supports the Montaukett Nation’s efforts toward federal recognition.

I live deep in the woods with my wife and two young children. Teaching them to track animals, name the trees, and recognize bird calls.  This is my first book and might be my last, unless my kids finally go to bed on time...
